Over the past several years, Courtroom Insight has developed a unique litigation knowledge management solution. The product is well known for integrating internal and external information about expert witnesses, mediators, arbitrators and judges, which creates a one-stop shop for knowledge management and research purposes.
We pride ourselves on maintaining strong partner relationships with our clients. This approach results in ongoing dialogue regarding user feedback about client needs and potential product enhancements. Recently, several pain points have emerged centered around a lack of accurate, reliable lawyer data. Specific client requests include seeking the following functionalities:
- Connection Identification: Accessing known relationships and experiences of attorneys who recently joined a firm
- Alumni Tracking: Tracking career progression and movement of firm or school alumni
- Change Alerts: Quickly identifying changes to clients’ in-house counsel staff
- Contact Information: Locating contact information for corporate counsel
- Experience Verification: Verifying experiences of potential lateral recruits
- Competitor Analysis: Analyzing law firm competition across practice area, industry, office location, etc.
- Centralized & Unified Data: Centralizing lawyer data across numerous internal systems
After listening to clients’ requests, we embarked on building a lawyer directory to address industry needs and complement our existing directories. We’re combining all of our data into one unified database, thereby creating a unique identifier for all legal professionals that differentiates additional content based upon role (i.e., lawyer, arbitrator, judge or expert witness.) These master identifiers will allow clients to maintain a single source of truth for personal information that integrates both internal systems as well as external data sources.
Courtroom Insight is naturally positioned to build an authoritative resource due to these five unique advantages:
- Quality Data: We focus on capturing data about people within the legal industry and automatically identifying their connections to specific firms and lawyers.
- Extensive Partnerships: Our numerous existing partnerships integrate critical external data sources into our system. (e.g., case history, published articles, expert challenges)
- External System Integrations: We offer APIs to push our data into data lakes and other firm systems such as Foundation Firm Intelligence or CRM systems.
- Normalized Information: Our team of data scientists, developers and researchers are singularly focused on capturing, normalizing and maintaining accurate data in accordance with industry standards such as SALI (Standards Advancement for the Legal Industry.)
- Client-First Approach: Our client partners are active participants in the process of designing the features and functionality of our system to best meet their needs.
This new path is particularly exciting for me because it truly expands the scope of our offerings to a variety of different groups within an organization, such as:
- Alumni Relations
- Business Development
- Competitive Intelligence
- Data Analysis
- Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI)
- Experience Management
- Innovation
- Knowledge Management
- Marketing
- Recruiting
- Research Services
Recently, clients have questioned whether we are going to change the name of our company to recognize our new expanded scope. While we are not ready to do that just yet, our solution clearly encompasses a much wider range of content and purpose than just litigation. The launch of our new lawyer directory is another critical step towards serving a larger purpose: to create the authoritative source of truth for all people within the legal industry.
